Decompression by Yona Rozenkier was selected to the Cannes Film Festival L’Atelier

The screenplay by Yona Rozenkier and producer Kobi Mizrahi, which was developed at the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab's 4th edition, has been selected to the prestigious Atelier at the Cannes Film Festival.

Part of Cannes' Cinefondation film development initiative, the Atelier was launched in 2005 to support emerging filmmakers who are offered expert advice and the chance to meet potential co-production partners and funding sources during the Festival.

Decompression won first prize during the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab and was awarded a $50,000 prize, at the Lab's closing event which was held on July, 2016.

The chairman of the jury, Oscar nominated cinematographer, Slawomir Idzak, shared the jury's reasons for their decision:

"The jury was impressed by the genuine and emotional father and son story from north of Israel to south. The mix between drama and humor is very well balanced. The very visual metaphoric ending is so powerful, you will not forget it"

The stellar jury included Hengameh Panahi - Founding Director, Celluloid Dreams, Charles Tesson -  Artistic Director of the Cannes Critics' Week, Kirsten Niehuus - General Director, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Katriel Schory - Director of The Israel Film Fund, Eric Lagesse - President, Pyramide Films, Carole Scotta - Founding Director, Haut et Court and Roberto Olla - Executive Director, Eurimages.

This is the 3rd Lab's project to be selected to prestigious Cannes Atelier. Former participants were Ivory Coast director, Philippe Lacôte, Lab's first edition winner with his project RUN (2014 Cannes Un Certain Regard) and Bibhusan Basnet & Pooja Gurung from Nepal with their project The Whole-Timers.
