The Sam Spiegel International Film Lab Names New Director

Today the Sam Spiegel International Lab announced that Associate Director Ifat Tubi is leaving the lab after six years. Israel's former Cultural Attaché in Los Angeles, Lior Sasson will direct the 7th edition of the Lab.

Tubi worked alongside Founding Director Renen Schorr in establishing one of the three major international film labs. The Lab is known for its high professional demands and strict writing workshops.

Ifat will join the Israel's leading Artists' Agency, Kneller to head the agency of International affairs.

Renen Schorr: "Ifat Tubi has consistently and constantly changed the metabolism of the Jerusalem Film Lab. In the first and last six years, Ifat, created a human hub. From here, from Jerusalem to the whole world. Enabled a real dialogue that is not contrived. A conservatory about screenplays and their meanings. On a shoestring budget, she helped to bring about truthfulness and camaraderie. But one that is full of life, fun, curiosity and giving".

Ifat Tubi: "After 6 year at the Sam Spiegel Lab, where we created one of the most prestigious platforms for young filmmakers, it's time for me to move on.

I'm proud of our achievements - help creating outstanding films, shooting in the most exotic of locations and reaching the highest peaks of our industry. I thank Renen Schorr for inviting me into this world and entrusting me with this task. It was an honor to have you as a partner in this journey.  I am beginning a new chapter, but will always see the lab and Sam Spiegel School as home".

Lior Sasson is a producer and international project manager. Lior directed the Israel Film Pavilion at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Prior to that. Sasson was VP for Business Development at JasmineTV. Between 2008-2011 he served as Cultural Attaché at the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles, as well as the liaison to Hollywood.  He is a member of the Israeli Producers Association Board, and holds a BSc from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Lior Sasson: "It is a great honor and privilege to take this international and professional organization that Renen and Ifat established. I look forward to continue to develop the Lab as a global leading institute for film development and project improvement".

The Lab brings together12 promising Israeli and international filmmakers along with mentors who work with them intensively as they develop their script over a period of 7 months.
