The 2018 Sam Spiegel International Film Lab stellar jury includes Academy Award nominated NY based prolific director ,screenwriter, and producer Oren Moverman chair of the jury, Frédéric Boyer, Tribeca Film Festival artistic director, Peter Rommel, producer, Germany, Fiorella Moretti,  sales agent, Luxbox, France, Diana Elbaum, producer, Belgium, Claas Danielsen, MDM Fund executive director, Germany, Joana Vicente, Executive Director of the IFP, Katriel Schory, executive director Israel Film Fund, Keren Margalit, television writer-director, Israel.

The 7th edition of the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab will take place July 5-9 and for the first time independently of the Jerusalem Film Festival. After seven months of mentoring by the JSFL, 12 projects will compete for the Beracha Foundation production grants of $70,000. During the final pitching event, these 12 fully developed projects are pitched by the director and producer to an audience of international renowned jury and 35 decision makers to enter the feasibility of the production. Since 2011, 70% of films developed at the JSFL have been produced in 32 different countries.

In 2018, the JSFL will introduce the new Sam Spiegel Work in Progress Platform - with new monies - open to films by the Lab's international and local alumni, as well as the alumni of the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School. 4 films in post-production will be showcased and be eligible for two cash prizes totaling $50,000- the $25,000 ARP Sélection France Award, and the $25,000 Sam Spiegel Foundation Award.

For the first time in 2018 the JSFL will grant the Force-of-Nature Filmmaking Award to longtime Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick, for changing the infrastructure of German cinema via the triangle: the NRW Fund, the International Film School Cologne, empowering the Berlinale - thus changing world cinema. His groundbreaking canvas includes initiatives such as the first pan-European distribution fund and Berlinale Talents, the peak of the Berlinale worldwide. Kosslick inspired the establishment by Renen Schorr of the Jerusalem Film and Television Fund in 2008.

Renen Schorr, Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School Founding Director: "Our new dates allowed us to be free; to write the Lab's manifesto, to make our hub hubbier and multilayered. This year we will expand the echoes of the pitching event creating two new platforms - the Work in Progress Awards and experimentally, immediate greenlight for development based on Rosebud One-liner. For three and a half days, we will try a new communal togetherness of varied storytellers: Dieter Kosslick,  juries, co-producers from 13 countries, sales agents, fund and festival directors, and more. Not gatekeepers, but gate-openers."

The JSFL is the brainchild of the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School and the only lab initiated and led by a film school. The Lab is run on a shoestring budget of 285,000 euro. Supporters of the Lab are the Beracha Foundation, the Jerusalem Film and Television Fund, the Sam Spiegel Foundation, ARP Selection France, the Jerusalem Foundation and the Israel Film Fund
