Script Editors

Clare Downs, UK 

 

Script executive (The Ladd Company) consultant, scriptwriter, evaluator (Malta Film Fund), visiting lecturer at the National Film and Television School (UK) and the MA Screenwriting Dept at De Montfort University.  Producer - The Dress (BAFTA), High Season (San Sebastian, Best Screenplay). Clare Downs has extensive international script consulting and workshop experience. She has been a founding member of the EAVE script analyst team since 1989. Head of Studies for Regional Programmes in Greece, Ireland and Scotland. Script Expert for EAVE on Demand and for the EAVE International Programmes -Ties That Bind, B'EST. Also Head of Studies of the Southern African producer training programme, AVEA;  Head of Script for FOCAL'S South Caucasian Film Project (IFSCA); Script Consultant for the Sam Speigel International Film Lab; Bridging the Dragon (Europe/China). 

 

 


Jacques Akchoti, France 

 

After his studies at the NYU film school, Jacques Akchoti has worked in different areas of film production with directors such as R.Bresson, JJ. Beineix, L. Von Trier. 

He then became a screenwriter, script consultant, and headed the development of many French and international films for cinema and television, which obtained selections and awards at major film festivals. Most recently, A Screaming Man by Haroun Mahamat Saleh, recipient of many awards, notably the Jury Prize at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

He has directed a feature film for television and written several screenplays. His latest
script, Don’t Look Back, a film by Marina De Van featuring Sophie Marceau and Monica Bellucci was part of the Official Selection of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

Jacques has been teaching writing and directing at the Femis (National French Filmschool) since 1988 and has facilitated many international screenwriting and development workshops, including EAVE, Sud Ecriture, DV8 films, Vision Cinema, Ekran, Interchange, etc.

Avi Nesher, Israel

 

Avi Nesher's acclaimed films have played a major part in Israeli cinema's success and rise to international prominence. His films have netted multiple Israeli Academy Award wins and over two dozen nominations. Each of his most recent three features - The Secrets, The Matchmaker and The Wonders - had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and all three were welcomed with critical acolades.

 


Nesher's earlier films include Turn Left at the End of the World, which was nominated for seven Israeli Academy awards and was the biggest Israeli box office of the decade; The controversialThe Troupe has become a cult classic; and Rage & Glory, another politically-charged film was recently selected by the Lincoln Center Film Society as one of the most important films in Israeli cinema history.


After seeing Rage and Glory, legendary producer Dino De Laurentis (Blue Velvet) convinced Nesher to come to Hollywood, where Nesher wrote and directed Timebomb for MGM andDoppelganger for 20th Century Fox. Both films won prizes at the Avoriaz Science Fiction and Fantasy Festival in France. Nesher also wrote, produced and directed the independent featureThe Taxman which opened to extraordinary reviews.

Currently Nesher is in pre-production on Past Tense – written by Nesher and award winning novelist Kate Walbert and produced by Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).


Nesher has received the Cinematic Excellence Award at the Haifa Film Festival, the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival and a star on the Avenue of the Stars – an honor rarely bestowed upon directors.
