Ása Hjorleifsdottir

Ása was born in 1984 in Reykjavík, but has spent most of her life outside her native Iceland - in England, France, Canada and the United States. Asa is a graduate of the Columbia University Film MFA program.

Before going to film school, Ása completed a BA in English and French Literature from the University of Iceland and La Sorbonne - Paris IV Université, and worked for a while as a book critic for the Icelandic National Radio before she decided to move to New York City and pursue her true love, filmmaking.

Ása has written, directed and edited a number of short films, most notably her Columbia thesis film Ástarsaga, which has played at over 30 festivals (including the int’l competition at Clermont Ferrand and Palm Springs Shortsfest), and was furthermore a finalist for the 2013 Student Academy Awards.

Ása took part of the 2014 Berlin Talents.

The Swan, a project that has been green-lit for script development by the Iceland Film Fund, will be Asa’s first feature film.
