Ernesto Contreras


A graduate of the University Center for Cinematographic Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Ernesto has received numerous excellence grants.


In 2007, his first feature film, Párpados Azules (Blue Eyelids), was awarded the Best Ibero-American at Guadalajara Film Festival. He was nominated for the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, as part of the Critics’ Week. It also won the Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Special Mention in San Sebastian, and the Ariel Award for Best First Work by the Mexican Academy.


Ernesto’s documentary on 20 years of Mexico’s primary rock band, Seguirsiendo: Café Tacvba (Being: Café Tacvba), opened in theatres nationwide in 2010.


In 2011, he received the Sundance Institute/Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award for the development of his second feature film, I Dream in Another Language.
