He took part in Berlinale Talents (2013) and Sarajevo Talents (2014) where he won the YapimLab award for Pack&Pitch. But somehow, against all odds, it is in the hellish reality of the West Bank checkpoints that she is exposed to an alternate life, and begins to follow her own dreams. DIRECTOR'S NOTE I grew up in a poor neighborhood, hung out with a bad crowd and was in an extremely toxic relationship. My immigrant parents, who didn't have the tools or knowledge to help me, asked me to enlist in the army - in hopes that my service would be a ticket out of the neighborhood. My incentive was qualifying for the increased release grant combatants were entitled to. Terms such as "the occupation", "apartheid" and even "Palestinian" meant little to nothing to me, much like the vast majority of soldiers serving the checkpoints. Soon enough I found myself serving in the Tulkarem checkpoints. Most of the soldiers came from poor neighborhoods and difficult backgrounds. The only thing we cared about was our own survival. Morals were the luxury of elitist rich-kids, and those were never recruited to the checkpoints. She was also nominated for the Best Casting Award at the 201 Ofir Awards for her work on ‘The House On Pin Street. Checkpoints is Rita’s first full length feature, and has received the award for second place in the 2020 Haifa International Pitching Forum, was featured in the 2021 Ronit Elkabetz’s residency program in cooperation with the Israeli Directors Union, was selected to represent Israel and won third place in the 2023 International Women’s Cinema Pitching Forum and won second place in the Cyprus International Film Festival, which was focused on Middle Eastern cinema. DIRECTOR'S NOTE I believe that in parenthood there is a contrasting duality between generosity and selfishness. Within it, I would like to explore the distinction between a "child" and an "heir". That is why I choose to talk about disability. All the parents of a disabled child know this: before the pain of the child born in adverse conditions takes over, for a moment they feel the pain of loss. They mourn "the other child", the one they imagined having during the pregnancy. The question I asked myself is: what happens when that other child materializes? LOG LINE Dario, the father of a disabled child, forges a stronger bond with his nephew and discovers he prefers him to his own son. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER Tommaso Landucci was born in Italy in 1989 and he graduated in directing from the Italian National School of Cinema. After working as personal assistant for Luca Guadagnino, he directed the feature documentary Caveman -The Hidden Giant, which premiered at the 78th Venice Film Festival, and was a finalist of Nastri D'Argento 2022. Currently he is working on his debut feature film Children of the Monkey, written with Damiano Femfert and produced by Lungta Film. It was awarded the Premio Solinas 2021, the most prestigious award in Italy for best screenplay. PRODUCER Andrea Calbucci Experienced producer Andrea Calbucci joined Lungta Film in 2014. He takes care of every artistic aspect of Lungta Films projects, from the choice of subjects, to editing, and the preparation of the actors.
